Snapped Wire and Damaged Connection Poses Fire Risk for Florida Home

Electrical Hazard

Sean T. stepped outside his Indialantic home one March afternoon to a frightening sight. Where the overhead electrical service from the utility was connected to his home had become loose, causing some of the connections to become exposed.

“The neighborhood recently had some pretty gnarly wind come through, which is what we believe caused this problem,” said Sean. “I don’t know much about electrical (systems) but I became concerned from a safety standpoint because of the exposed wires and their close proximity to the house.”

Luckily for Sean, he remembered signing up for an Exterior Electrical repair plan from HomeServe just last year and was able to find the phone number to call on his utility bill.

“I initially signed up for a repair plan with HomeServe because I live beachside and was concerned about winds causing wires to snap,” said Sean. “The city had just trimmed the trees around our town, so I never thought I would need to call for help so soon into being a customer.”

After explaining the situation to an agent at HomeServe’s operations center, a local and reliable member of the contractor network, Castillo’s Electrical Service, was dispatched to Sean’s home. Immediately, the electrician on site recognized the potential danger of the situation and got started on the repair.

“The electrician told me that the exposed wires could eventually begin to rub against the outside of my house if the winds continue, which could start a fire,” said Sean. “I was glad he recognized the risk and knew what to do to fix it.”

The electrician replaced damaged wiring and installed new connectors to the lines to ensure a secure and permanent and safe solution. Afterwards, he was sure to conduct a full inspection to verify the security, safety, compliance and reliability of the connections. Once the job was done, Sean saved over $1,600 in out of pocket repairs.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for the extra protection this plan offered me here,” said Sean. “I’m really happy with the service and am all in to remain a customer.”
