Mike L. and his wife were finally feeling settled into their new home in Raytown, Missouri after moving in just six months prior. That is until one March evening, when they discovered their main drain in the basement backing up with water. A retired contractor with a plethora of experience, Mike tried not to sweat it too much.
“It’s not something you want to see in a brand-new investment like a house,” said Mike. “But I figured a quick clearing of the line would fix the issue.”
Luckily, he had enrolled in a repair plan offered by HomeServe that covered his exterior sewer line right after moving in. A quick call to HomeServe led to a visit by a local and reliable member of their contractor network, KC Flow Heros. After KC ran a snake down the line, they advised Mike to give HomeServe a call if water began to back up again – and it wasn’t long until he had to make that call.
“Unfortunately, the snaking of the line only fixed the issue for four or five days,” said Mike. “It became clear that this might be a more serious problem.”
The contractor came back to the house and started their diagnostic process, which began with running a camera down the line. Just six feet into the line, they saw a large bunch of root intrusions that caused major damage and separations in the pipe. 13 feet would need to be replaced to get Mike’s home in working order again.
“We’ll be taking our friend who told us about HomeServe out to a very nice dinner.”
Mike shared that the main reason they signed up for a repair plan from HomeServe was based on advice from a close friend. As they closed on their house and moved in, he advised them that he had sewer line issues in the past, and that his plan from HomeServe eased the burden. Mike begrudgingly obliged, though he was not convinced of the value of the service.
“The contractor was polite, cooperative and, most importantly, cleaned up after themselves, which I can say as someone who spent time in the industry is not something you always get,” said Mike. “I was tickled pink with our experience – everyone was great”
“When we purchased this house less than a year ago, we had our home inspector check the state of the sewer line, and it was perfectly fine,” said Mike. “The fact that this happened within the last six months is mind blowing to us.”
When he learned of his savings, which totaled over $6,000 for this job, he had one thing to say.
