HomeServe Takes Customer from Leak to Relief

Tom G. was enjoying a sunny April day in his Chapel Hill, North Carolina home until a letter from the local water utility cast a shadow on his mood. His water usage had spiked dramatically, raising the alarm that there could be a leak somewhere in his exterior water line.

“The increase made no sense since it’s just my wife and I here like always,” said Tom. “We quickly figured out something was amiss.”

Luckily, years before, Tom had made a small but smart decision that turned out to make a big difference. His gas utility had included a notice about HomeServe’s available optional repair plans, including coverage for exterior water lines. Signing up seemed like a practical step at the time, but he never imagined just how valuable that decision would become.

Fast forward to that April day, and Tom didn't have to panic for long. He called HomeServe right away and explained the situation. They dispatched PipeTech Plumbing, a trusted member of their contractor network, to investigate.

It didn’t take long to uncover the source of the problem: a major leak in the exterior water line that had been wasting gallons of water per hour for weeks, spiking his water bill $200 above the average $30 per month amount. After pinpointing the leak, they determined a 15-foot section of the copper line was damaged and needed replacement.

“The plumbers with PipeTech were fantastic, and they couldn’t have been more professional.” Tom shared.

The best part, of course, was seeing the repair bill. Thanks to his HomeServe repair plan, Tom didn’t have to pay a penny out of pocket for the $3,000 job, and his investment in the repair plan would be covered by these savings for years to come.

"It’s safe to say that I’m a happy camper," Tom said. "HomeServe did what they said they’d do, and the contractor knew what they were doing and did a great job.”
