How Angela Turned a Surprise Water Leak into $1,400 in Savings

“I was walking around when I realized the ground was squishy,” said Angela C. of Alvarado, Texas. “Then I noticed some of the grass was greener than the rest. So, I went and looked at the water meter. When I’m not in the house, it shouldn’t be spinning, but it was.”

Luckily, her local water utility, Nexus Water Group, had sent her information about an emergency water line repair plan available from HomeServe and she had enrolled in the program. She had been living in her home for nearly three decades and she thought that a plan like this would come in handy if she needed help around her home.

“I’m glad that they provided me with information about HomeServe,” Angela said. “It’s not something that would have occurred to me to seek out on my own. I lived here for 26 years and never had a problem, but I’m not getting any younger. The advice from the utility company was very helpful to me.”

So, she called HomeServe, and within the same day, she received a call from local plumbing company Drain Plumbing Service of Arlington to schedule an appointment to come out and repair her water line.

That’s right – in less than six months, Angela needed two separate repairs to her water line. The first break occurred in September and required replacing five feet of her water service line. It was followed by a more complex and difficult to locate break in January.

“The arrangements were made quickly,” Angela said. “The first time, it was a simple leak, all that was needed was a patch. The second time was more complicated.”

“I keep a sharp eye on the water meter now,” she said. “With the second break, it took them a day to find it, because they had to get specialized equipment – where the water was coming up wasn’t where the leak was.”

This time, the contractor replaced an additional 15 feet of water line, and, between the two repairs, Angela saved $1,420.

“Neither time was I charged for anything,” Angela said. “At $72 for the year, even with one water leak, you're getting more than your money back. It’s real savings.”

In fact, Angela was so pleased with her savings, she invested in a plan to cover her sewer service line as well.
“I would recommend HomeServe,” she said.
