Mike L. from Raytown, Missouri, never expected to find a puddle of dirty water in his basement. The suspected source? A backed-up main drain connected to his home’s exterior sewer line.
“The puddle of water wasn’t too large, so it felt like we caught the issue right at the beginning of it.” said Mike.
Thankfully, Mike knew exactly what to do. He reached out to HomeServe, who quickly dispatched KC Flow Heroes, a trusted contractor in their network, to tackle the issue.
“David, the agent I spoke with when I called in to HomeServe, was great – he talked me through everything and made sure to dispatch the contractor to the house quickly,” said Mike. “The plumbers were the same – extremely professional and as courteous as can be.”
The team at KC Flow Heroes got straight to work. They snaked the sewer line on Mike's property, but about 120 feet out, they encountered a blockage they couldn’t bypass. With their next step clear, they used a camera to inspect the line and discovered the root of the problem. The sewer line was compromised in several places, with one area partially collapsed and several sections clogged with tree roots.
“It was a shock to hear about the condition of some parts of the sewer line, but it wasn’t upsetting because we knew it was on the way to getting repaired,” said Mike. “I was kept as in the loop as can be the entire time.”
Once they got the green light to proceed with the large repair, the team dug deep to replace multiple sections of the line. The project presented challenges—not only was the pipe located unusually deep, but the damage was significant. Nevertheless, KC Flow Heroes completed the work, and reran the camera to ensure everything was in perfect working order before backfilling the trench to leave the yard looking as if nothing had happened.
If Mike wasn’t enrolled in the repair plan, this could have been a major hit to his wallet – to the tune of over $11,000.
“A good friend of ours suggested looking into HomeServe’s plans because of the age of our home and the fact we have a lot of old trees on our property, so we called the city who answered our questions and directed us to HomeServe,” recalled Mike. “It was some of the best advice we ever got.”
